In Memoriam

Dennis J. Insogna

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Dennis J. Insogna, President and CEO of WorkPlace Furnishings, died suddenly December 2, 2007 after suffering a massive heart attack.  He was 56 years old.

Dennis was appointed WPF President last year.  Prior to that, he was a Business Advisor for WPF, member of the WPF Board of Directors and Vice President and General Manager at Steelcase dealer BKM Total Office in East Hartford, CT.

A graduate of St. John's University, Dennis served as a communications officer in the U.S. Army before beginning his business career in 1973 with Eutectic Corp., an international manufacturer of metallurgical products, where he held management positions in sales, training, marketing, recruiting and distribution.  In 1986 he joined Imperial Inc., a division of General Cigar and held numerous senior executive and sales management positions before joining BKM in 1996.

"In the all too short time that Dennis Insogna was involved with WorkPlace Furnishings, he provided leadership and direction that took the organization to a new level, both for our dealer and supplier members," commented WorkPlace Furnishings Chairman of the Board Bob Carlson of Marco, St. Cloud, MN.  "He was totally dedicated to WorkPlace and his infectious enthusiasm, management skills and plain hard work were a model for all of us.  We will miss him deeply but the legacy he leaves will inspire all who knew him at WorkPlace to continue to implement his vision for the organization."

In addition to his wife Carol, survivors include his two children, Dennis Jr. and Stephanie, and two grandchildren, Alison and Madigan.

Friends and family may call at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, CT, on Wednesday, December 5 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, December 6, at 10:00 AM at St. Gregory the Great Church, 235 Maltby Street, Bistol, CT with burial at 11:00 AM.

Roy Macdonald

Roy Macdonald, one of the key contributors to the growth of WorkPlace Furnishings over many years, died peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2007. He was 80 years old.

A veteran of the office furniture industry, Roy’s association with WorkPlace Furnishings went back over 20 years. Before joining WPF as a consultant, Roy was Vice President of Commercial Sales at Virco Manufacturing and was Virco’s representative with our organization for many years.

His tenure at WorkPlace spanned 13 years and his vast industry knowledge and outstanding negotiation skills played a key role in building the WPF portfolio of industry manufacturers.

He was unique in our organization in that he was presented on two separate occasions with the Nathan M. Loth award, WorkPlace Furnishings’ highest honor: once as a vendor with Virco in 1992 and again in 1996 as a staff member, for his contributions to the development of our buying group activities.

“Very few people in our industry knew as much about the office furniture business as Roy Macdonald,” commented WPF president and CEO Dennis Insogna. “But over and above his industry knowledge, Roy was one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet and a consummate professional. Our thoughts and prayers are with Fran and all the Macdonald family at this time. We will all miss him deeply.”
